abstract

a bstract background: shivering is a common complication of general and epidural anesthesia. warming methods and many drugs are used for control of shivering in the recovery room. the present study is a randomized clinical trial aimed to investigate the effects of two interventions in comparison with pethidine which is the routine treatment on shivering in patients undergoing abdominal surgery with general anesthesia.   materials and methods: eighty‑seven patients undergoing abdominal surgery by general anesthesia were randomly assigned to three groups (two intervention groups in comparison with pethidine as routine). patients in warmed intravenous fluids group received pre‑warmed ringer serum (38°c), patients in combined warming group received pre‑warmed ringer serum (38°c) accompanied by humid‑warm oxygen, and patients in pethidine group received intravenous pethidine routinely. the elapsed time of shivering and some hemodynamic parameters of the participants were assessed for 20 min postoperatively in the recovery room. then the collected data were analyzed by software spss (v. 16) with the significance level being p < 0.05.   results: the mean of elapsed time in the warmed intravenous serum group, the combined warming group, and the pethidine group were 7 (1.5) min, 6 (1.5) min, and 2.8 (0.7) min, respectively, which was statistically significant ( p < 0.05). the body temperatures in both combined warming and pethidine groups were increased significantly ( p < 0.05).   conclusions: combined warming can be effective in controlling postoperative shivering and body temperature increase.

A comparative study on the effects of warm intravenous fluids, intravenous pethidine, and combined warm intravenous fluids and humid-warm oxygen on hemodynamic parameters after general anesthesia in patients with shivering in the recovery room

Introduction: Pethidine is commonly used to treat shivering after general anesthesia (GA), yet respiratory depression may subsequently occur. Warming methods such as warm fluids and/or humid-warm oxygen inhalation can reduce shivering after GA. This randomized clinical trial aimed to compare the effects of three different methods on the reduction of shivering and their hemodynamic and respirato...

The survey of Rrespiratory Rate, SPO2, nausea and vomiting in the use of three methods (warmed intravenous fluids, combined warming and pethidine) in patients with shivering

Introduction: Shivering after anaesthesia and surgery is a common complication. Different methods are used for control of shivering in the recovery room. The opioids such as pethidine are very common in shivering control. Pethidine can be induced apnea, respiratory depression and nausea &vomiting. The respiratory rate and spo2 can lead to more rapid diagnosis and treatment of serious hypoxemia ...

A Comparison of Intravenous Dexamethasone, Pethidine and Ketamine in the Prevention of Postoperative Shivering in Patients Undergoing General Anesthesia

Introduction and Purpouse: Postoperative shivering, which is unpleasant and annoying to the patient, occurs in patients with general anesthesia occurring in up to 65% of cases. Different mechanisms have been proposed for postoperative shivering. Chills after anesthesia can cause cardiovascular complications, bleeding and infections. this study, effects of dexamethasone, pethidine and ketamine h...

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

the analysis of the role of the speech acts theory in translating and dubbing hollywood films
